Indie Queen // Jessie Baylin

I have the most unhealthy obsession with indie queens like Stevie Nicks, Ellie Goulding, Jessie Baylin and more recently Lana del Ray.

My favourite lady though, is the whimsical and magical, Jessie Baylin.

I first learnt of Jessie while stalking the brothers Followill of Kings of Leon. When I found out Nathan was married to a performing songwriter I had to know what she was all about.

A Jersey girl by birth, she attended music school in New York City and later moved to Los Angeles, where she launched her songwriting career as an indie-folk regular at the Hotel Cafe. Now settled in Nashville with husband Nathan, she funnels her wanderlust into the gorgeous, pastoral songs that fill her third album. Little Spark may be an alt-country record on the surface, but Baylin dives deep into the genre’s roots, mining a mix of western blues, Laurel Canyon folk, and 1970s singer-songwriter pop.

When you hear Jessie Baylin sing for the first time, it takes a matter of moments to realize that she’s intimately familiar with pop’s history – but not at all interested in repeating it.

Here are some pictures of my favourite indie rockstar, Jessie Baylin.
